PRESENTAZIONE - ABSTRACT
The term "critical factor" refers to any aspect that deserves
careful consideration when approaching the issue of transferring knowledge
to end users, with the ultimate aim of achieving their empowerment or preparing
the ground for it.
This report identifies, describes and analyses such
critical factors, and leads to a conceptual framework for the development
of educational initiatives. The "fil-rouge" behind this study
is the process that leads from the expression of the need to the choice
of assistive technology.
The introduction (chapter 1) enlightens the philosophy
of EUSTAT project (Background), clarifies three basic concepts
(autonomy,
AT, critical factors), describes the contents and explains the methodology.
The second chapter deals with the relationship between assistive technology
and its end-users, and describes the transfer of knowledge as a key factor
for bridging the gap. In the third chapter, a systematic classification
of critical factors is offered. It is based on a model of the educational
process that looks at the sequence of logical steps through which a body
of knowledge takes shape in the mind of the organiser of an educational
initiative, is delivered to end-users, and gradually results into their
empowerment. The fourth chapter lists the supporting literature, and also
includes a comprehensive review of selected handbooks on AT that are deemed
useful for the purpose of end-user education.
